         A Day With Kevin Missal

Hi, I'm Subhajit Panda. Today author Kevin Missal is along with me. He is the bestselling author of 'Kalki' book series. You can connect him on social media.

Let's start chat.

Q.1. When did you first realize that you wanted to be a writer?
When I read a chapter of Oliver Twist. I was like damn I wanna be like Charles Dickens. Mind you, I was just twelve years old and I was quite naive.
Q.2. When did you write your first story on a notebook/diary . and how old were you then?
Twelve.
Q.3. Where do the writing ideas come from? Any real inspiration?
I write on mythology, so that's where the inspiration comes from.
Q.4. What are common traps for aspiring writers?
Everything has to be fast for them. They need to slow down, relax and move at a good speed.
Q.5. Does a big ego help or hurt writers?
Hurt, of course.
Q.6. What is your writing Kryptonite?
Reading books of other genres. If I'm writing on fantasy and I end up reading thriller, my brain will tell me not to write fantasy.
Q.7. What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?
Not much. I research as I write. It's an evolving process.
Q.8. What’s your favorite under-appreciated novel?
I really like the Pendragon series. Not many know about them in India.
Q.9. Tell us about your novel.
It's the life and times of 10 Avatar of Lord Vishnu, Kalki.
Q.10. Any message in your novel that you hope readers will grasp?
Your choices define you.
Q.11. Your next project?
Narasimha series. Sinbad series.
Q.12. Best moment in your life.
When a twelve year old girl came all the way to get her book signed and get a photo with me. Best. Moment. Ever.
Q.13. Did you face any difficulties regarding publishing your book?
I did. Everyone does. No one believes in you and in that moment, you have to believe in yourself and when you do, everyone will believe in you then.
Q.14. Your inspiration?
My parents.
Q.15. Your favorite quote. And why it is your favorite one?
It was said by Anthony Horowitz. The difference between a successful and unsuccessful writer is, that the unsuccessful writer gives up.

Thank you so much Author Kevin Missal for your time.
